In-person grand opening, launch ceremonies planned at Albion College in May
ALBION, MI – Albion College is planning a special three-day in-person event in May to inaugurate President Mathew Johnson and celebrate the 2020 and 2021 graduates.
The event kicks off on May 6, with Johnson’s inauguration scheduled for 3:30 p.m. on Friday May 7, in an open-air ceremony on the Quadrangle campus.
Graduation ceremonies for both classes are scheduled for Saturday May 8. Class of 2021 ceremonies begin at 1 p.m.
The class of 2020 had a virtual debut ceremony due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Face masks are required for all events and rapid COVID-19 tests will be administered to all participants, the statement said. There will also be virtual viewing options.
“It has been a very long and very difficult year for so many people in this country,” said Ron Mourad, Acting Provost of Albion College. “And while precautions have yet to be maintained, we hope and believe that in-person celebrations can take place and to some extent allow us to return to something that feels like normalcy. It has been a long road, but it is a road that we have come together.
Speakers at Johnson’s inauguration include Marty Nesbitt, senior partner of the co-CEO of Vistra Group and chairman of the board of the Barack Obama Foundation; Andrea Brimmer, branding manager and public relations manager for Ally, Do It Right; and Donald Levy, director of the Siena College Research Institute.
